Youth opera programs with Central City Opera

Build an Opera

Nothing jumpstarts kids' creative juices like the opportunity to write and perform their own musical story.  The process of researching/scripting a story and writing/composing lyrics and music develops problem-solving and team skills while providing practical applications of core disciplines like math, reading/writing, history and geography.  Experienced theaching artists are available to assist in applying methods from Opera America's Music! Words! Opera! curriculum.

"The effects of these experiences are limitless.  It is certain that we awaken an appreciation for the arts in our neighborhood.  More importantly, though, the information regarding history, literature, politics and art introduced during the process will influence every student's response to his/her own future." - Karen Ritz, Music Specialist, Denver Public Schools
