Taking Modern Fun to Historic Heights | July 14, 2012  |  9:00 am - 7:00 pm

Central City Opera invites you for an unforgettable day of historic adventures in Central City - the pretty little 19th century mountain town that's 45 minutes west of Denver, but a million miles away.

Custom-craft your choice of all-day historic adventures, performances, parties and festival offerings with an all-inclusive $25 pass. (Subscribers just $20!)

  • "Short Works" performances - Saints and Sinners I and II - in the historic Central City Opera House Stables:  a tantalizing taste of opera at its casual best – attend one or both 45-minute performances in Central City's most unusual theater
  • Mountain biking through ghost towns & graveyards:  three seriously scenic self-guided mountain bike loops including the Nevadaville Loop “ tour with historic break + refreshment spots  (Note to cyclists:  map your ride in advance and pick the loop best suited to your ability via the mapmyride link on the Central City Days biking webpage, or pick up a map at the Teller House upon check-in.  Free parking/continuous shuttle service provided with pass, courtesy of the City of Central)
  • Guided historic walking tours:  take a walk on the 19th century’s wild side - “Religion and the Red Light District”, “The Characters of Central City” and “Coeur D'Alene Mine” tours depart from the Teller House every hour on the hour (courtesy Gilpin County Historical Society)
  • Special guest tour guide Tom "Dr. Colorado" Noel will lead a "Downhill from There" walking tour of Central City's infamous watering holes:  underbelly tales of Face Bar, the Gold Coin, Dostal Alley and more - tour departs from the McFarlane House at 2:15 pm  (NOTE:  Space for this popular tour is limited to the first 25 pass-holders to RSVP by calling 720.227.5363)
  • Geocache history treks:  self-launch from the Teller House’s famous Face Bar to scavenge the streets and hillsides of Central City’s past for your chance to win fabulous end-of-day prizes
  • Front Porch Storyteller’s Lemonade Lunch, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm:  sit and rest a spell on the bucolic grounds of the historic McFarlane House at the  as storytellers bring Anne Evans and other intriguing Coloradans back to life to share their enchanting tales - special guest storyteller Tom "Dr. Colorado" Noel will spin some sweet yarns from 1:30 to 2:00 pm.  Many thanks to our partners at  History Colorado.  (Complimentary teas, lemonades and waters sponsored by New Age Beverage;  BYO picnic/bag lunch)
  • Central City Days at Dusk twilight party, 5:00 - 7:00 pm :  al fresco celebration on the grounds of the historic McFarlane House featuring live music by The Mile Markers + the very fine beers of Oskar Blues Brewery, local food + wine  (All-inclusive with pass purchase; 21 and older)
  • Artist’s Pavilion in the Opera Gardens presented by the Gilpin County Arts Association
  • Guided “drop in” tours of the oldest continuously operating church in the state - St. James Methodist Church (ca. 1871)
  • 50% off museum admissions - Gilpin County Historical Museum and the Thomas House  (courtesy of the Gilpin County Historical Society)
  • Exclusive discounts at local businesses & museums 
  • 25% discount on tickets for that evening's 8:00 pm performance of Benjamin Britten's haunting The Turn of the Screw (based on Henry James' novella) at the historic Central City Opera House (advance purchase only, based on availability)
