OPERA ALIVE TEACHING ARTISTS (Grades K-12)
more
Science of Singing“My students are always so highly energized after your workshop! They work harder, they are more focused, and they sing better. I want this on my school calendar annually!” - Choral Director, Estes Park High School

Producing opera requires knowledge and experience from many different fields. Call on Central City Opera's Teaching Artists to help augment your curriculum in STEM subjects, music, dance, theater and world languages. Students gain confidence and technique in workshops or master classes in singing, instrumental music, composition, stagecraft, movement or any other related activity. Master classes can include a short performance by artists followed by individual or group coaching.

Two popular STEM workshops are Science of Singing (led by a Doctor of Singing) where students watch and experience how sound waves and harmonics are produced and manipulated by the human voice and Cooking and Fractions (led by a CCO orchestra musician who is a chef) where students apply various math techniques to recipes and discover how bodies are instruments that need to be fueled.

MUSIC! WORDS! OPERA! RESIDENCY (Grades K-12)
more
“The experience of building an opera and performing it was life changing for many of my fifth grade students.” - Music Teacher, Southmoor Elementary, Denver

The process of researching/scripting a story and writing/composing lyrics and music develops problem-solving and team skills while providing practical applications of core disciplines like math, reading/writing and social studies. Experienced teaching artists are available to assist in applying methods from Opera America’s Music! Words! Opera! curriculum. Teachers must have participated in our Music! Words! Opera! TINY TOTS/INSIDE THE ORCHESTRA (Preschool & Elementary)
more
“For the fifth year, we’re thrilled to partner with Inside the Orchestra in providing a magical and interactive opportunity to introduce young kids and their parents to classical music through this unique concept of placing the audience inside the performance” - Central City Opera Education and Community Engagement Director Deb Morrow

Inside the Orchestra presents public and school performances that engage, entertain and educate children, touring to elementary schools throughout the year. Public performances of Tiny Tots are also presented, geared towards children six and under (but all ages are welcome).  ISO’s adult professional orchestra surrounds the audience as they hear well-known repertoire ranging from “Looney Tunes” to "Star Wars” to Beethoven. Children and their parents interact with the orchestra through movement, conducting and other fun activities. And, by popular demand, live opera music is sung by Central City Opera Ensemble Artists right in the midst of the audience.
