Do you have students aged 14-19 who are ready for an extended performing arts workshop? Central City Opera and the Colorado Springs Conservatory are offering the Performing Arts Intensive, two weeks of summer study with visiting master teaching artists. Under the direction of composer-in-residence, Mr. Roger Ames, students collaborate, create, and perform an original operatic work based on the life of a historic character researched during the first week. Dates for the 2012 Summer Performing Arts Intensive are July 14 through 28, 2012. Study for the first ten days takes place in Colorado Springs on the Colorado College campus. Public performances take place in Colorado Springs before departing for Central City for four days as opera company members. Students see all of the opera festival’s main stage productions and participate in workshops and master classes with Music Director John Baril and additional Festival Artists-in-Residence drawn from professional theater, dance and opera. The two weeks end on a high note with public performances of their own program at Central City Opera. In the spring of the following year, the student opera is often remounted in Colorado Springs with many returning students.
