CENTRAL CITY OPERA ANNOUNCES OPEN AUDITIONS FEB. 23 AND 24 FOR BERNSTEIN’S WEST SIDE STORY

Jan. 25, 2008 / Denver, Colo. Central City Opera will hold open auditions on Feb. 23 and 24 for its 2008 production of Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story - Ken Cazan, director; Danny Pelzig, choreographer; John Baril, conductor. Auditions for all roles except Tony and Maria, including four adult speaking roles (Krupke, Gladhand, Schrank, Doc).

Dance auditions will be held Saturday, Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (union and non-union); plan to stay until released. Dance audition callbacks will be held on Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. for men, 4:00 p.m. for women, with additional callbacks possible on Sunday, Feb. 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. No ballet slippers. Men: jazz shoes or sneakers you can dance in, and bring kneepads. Women: heels. Bring your 16-32 bars of music to sing; West Side Story preferred. Bring your own music; accompanist provided, no CDs or taped music. Bring two copies each of headshot and resume.

Adult speaking role auditions will be held Sunday, Feb. 24 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. (union and non-union actors). Bring 2 copies each of your resume and headshot, and a 1-2 minute monologue. No singing.

All auditions take place at the Tramway Building, 1101 13th Street, Denver, second floor. Central City Opera’s new 2008 production of West Side Story, takes place this summer with 16 performances in the historical Central City Opera House, from June 28 - August 9, 2008. Those auditioning must be available June 3rd-June 28th, except Mondays, and for all performances. All roles paid. For performance schedule, see website www.centralcityopera.org.
