Denver, Co. - Central City Opera (CCO) is pleased to announce that bidding is open for an heirloom-quality oriental rug donated by Denver’s Shaver-Ramsey Oriental Rugs and Decor. This beautiful floor covering will be featured on stage in this summer’s 75th Anniversary production of La Traviat, adding even greater value.

“I chose this particular rug because it is a very unusual, yet traditional pattern with a wide border,” commented Central City Opera General/Artistic Director Pat Pearce, who personally selected the piece. “The colors of red and ivory with a blue medallion will stand out from even the farthest seat in the balcony and the size will show well on the stage.”

Central City Opera has sweetened the auction package by including a pair of 2008 Opening Night tickets and a special dinner for two at Kevin Taylor's Rouge at the Teller House, “A Modern Mountain Chophouse,” for a winning bid over $10,000. The winning bidder will also receive photographic documentation of the rug on stage at the Opera House.

Installation and delivery within the Denver metropolitan area are included for the winning bidder. Information on the auction is available online at www.centralcityopera.org or by calling Nancy Roddy at (303) 292-6500. Bids will be accepted through August 19, 2007.

Shaver-Ramsey made the donation in recognition of Central City Opera’s milestone 75th anniversary, as well as its own 30th anniversary, in 2007. The finely knotted 9’ by 11’ Baran carpet from the Woven Legends weaving group of eastern Turkey was inspired by Ferehan Sarouk carpets of western Iran and is constructed of hand-spun wool fibers colored with natural plant dyes. The auction package has a retail value of more than double the $5,000 minimum bid.

Shaver-Ramsey Oriental Rugs and Decor has provided distinctive oriental rugs and miscellaneous imported décor items to collectors and other clients from the same showroom at 2414 E. Third Avenue in the Cherry Creek North shopping district for three decades.

In addition to Verdi’s La Traviata, Central City Opera’s Diamond Anniversary Festival includes the world premiere of Guo Wenjing’s Poet Li Bai, a co-commission with Asian Performing Arts of Colorado; Jules Massenet’s Cinderella; and Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Saint of Bleecker Street. The 2007 Festival opens June 30 and runs through Aug. 19. Subscriptions start at just $107 and single tickets start at $43.
