The Central City Opera Guild presents Overture Night for all music and theater patrons in Denver as an offering of the famed Colorado summer music festival. Guests are invited to enjoy an appetizer buffet from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at Westin Denver Downtown V’s Lounge followed by the 7:30 pm performance of Kern and Hammerstein’s Show Boat at the Buell Theatre. The Westin is also offering discounted $6 parking for guests who wish to walk 3 blocks to the Buell Theatre.

The Central City Opera Guild designed Overture Night as a fun and lively introduction for show aficionados, both veterans and those new to opera.  Kern and Hammerstein’s popular musical features favorites like “Ol Man River,” and “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man.”  This story of the workers on a Mississippi show boat combines the lightness and spectacle of musical theater with the serious themes of racial prejudice and tragic love.  The show is performed in English.

“Since the run of Show Boat will be in Denver at the Buell Theatre, we hope to attract new patrons to the Central City Opera Festival, one of the longest-running opera festivals in the country,” said Denise Sanderson, president of the Central City Opera Guild.
